Introduction to Art Education
Fall 2018

Within this introduction to art education course, I had been introduced to the fundamental, historical, and philosophic components present in art education. More specifically, there had been an emphasis on discipline-based art education. In addition to learning about these characteristics, I had been given a hands-on learning opportunity to teach within the weekly Children's Art Club on campus as well as step inside an elementary school and teach a one-day lesson to elementary students.

Advocating Art Video!

Within this introduction to art education course, I had the opportunity to learn about the significance of advocating for this discipline. Showcased in the Animoto video below is my representation of how art benefits individuals as well as how it impacts society as a whole. In turn, I am advocating for the power that art holds.

Planning and Preparation

Throughout the length of this introduction to art education course, I had been introduced to the importance of having a plan before teaching any type of instruction. In turn, this plan is evolved into a well-developed lesson plan that highlights each of the significant objectives, essential questions, and activities that will be pursued in order for the students to successfully complete the art making project and learn the valuable content.

Elementary Lesson Plans

Included above is the elementary lesson plan that a two teaching partners and I developed in preparation for a hands-on teaching experience at Oaklawn Elementary School.

While pursuing an opportunity to teach at the weekly Children's Art Club event, a teaching partner and I developed this lesson plan to engage students in an Asian inspired wind chime.

Middle and HighSchool Lesson Plans

Within this art making lesson plan aimed towards middle school students, it integrates the valuable content of diversity that is present within the classroom. That being said, students will be introduced to the importance of differences and how they relate to everyone's individual cultures.

Incorporated to the right is a high school lesson plan that focuses on the development of observational and drawing skills in relation to the elements of design.
